5 UNIQUE HOBBIES FOR CHILDREN

Hobbies allow children to explore their passions, find hidden talents and develop skills that they wouldn’t otherwise probably be able to build at school.

They can really be beneficial for children in building self-esteem, confidence and self-identity. We have teamed up with an alternative school in London to explore 5 unique hobbies for children.

Magic Tricks

Magic can get children to explore their creativity and problem-solving skills by getting them to look for ways to make tricks appear believable. It encourages children to perform in front of others which can help to build their self-confidence and presentation skills.

Bird Watching

This is a hobby that can sharpen your child’s attention to detail by getting them to learn the difference between birds and how to look out for them. It can help your child to develop an appreciation for nature too.

Astronomy

Learning about the big wide world out there can be quite fascinating and is a way of getting your child into STEM. Like bird watching, astronomy gets children to practice their attention to detail when identifying the different stars in the night sky. It can help your child to exercise their research skills by giving them a topic of interest to study and support their science lessons too.

Gardening

Gardening can be therapeutic and improve your child’s mental health by giving them living things to nurture and watch grow. It can get your child to appreciate nature and biodiversity while getting them to practice skills such as patience. You can start with a bottle to create a mini-ecosystem and expand into the garden when the weather conditions are right.

Comic Book Art

Drawing comic strips can help your child exercise their creativity and offer relief from feelings of anxiety. Coming up with creative ideas for storylines and plots can help your child to develop key skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking. They can also get an insight into what a career in cartoon animation might look like.
