Essential Solo Travel Must-Haves

Travelling solo can be really daunting and scary, especially if it is your first time, but it is also so fun and really gives you such a boost of confidence and a buzz, the world really is your oyster! :)

I am travelling with Jet2 again next week on a brand trip and I can not wait. I have been doing this for quite a few years now and although I am going with fellow bloggers, I dont know any of them before the trip so essentially we are all travelling solo embarking on a new adventure.

Having the right essentials can make all the difference. From practical items to safety measures here's a list of must-haves I stand by.

Travel Insurance

Always at the top of your list should be travel insurance. Protecting yourself against unexpected mishaps and also providing coverage for medical emergencies, trip cancellations and lost property, I wouldn't go on any journey without it.

Portable Charger

Keep your electronic devices charged and ready for use wherever you go. Power banks are my holy grail and I carry one and a wire with me everywhere I go. They have also come in handy and saved the day for others on trips that have run out of battery too!. Whether needed for an emergency phone call or to capture your evening meal - they are a godsend.

First Aid Kit

Be prepared for any injuries with a mini first aid kit on your travels. I stock mine up with plasters (ALWAYS NEED THESE!), pain relief, vaseline and hayfever tablets. You can use an old wash bag and top it up with any essentials you need that you already have at home to keep the cost down :)

Books!

I am in my reading girl era again and I am so happy I got my mojo back. I read four books last month, I know, who is she?!. Books on your travels are a must. If you are not into reading then perhaps some audio books or download a few podcasts/films. Having packed things to do whilst away is a must, you will thank me later.

Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is so much easier with a reusable water bottle. Filling up at water stations or fountains throughout your travels not only saves money but also minimises plastic waste. I spent a fortune on holiday once on bottled water, which was actually shocking, so I now always have a trusty bottle with me ready to be filled up.

Safety Measures

Prioritize your safety by taking precautionary measures before and during your trip. Carry emergency contact information, copies of important documents and anything else you might need during your stay. I always update my partner regularly with where I am during the days I am solo travelling too.

Travel Journal

Capture the memories and moments of your journey with a travel journal. Pictures, videos or even blogging your time. It is amazing to look back on and reminisce.

Sunscreen

I only have to think about the sun and I burn. Make sure you pack your sunscreen, it can be super expensive to buy it abroad, even more expensive at duty-free so dont forget it. I wrote a blog post on The best suncreams to stay protected on holiday and these ones I live by and take with me wherever I go.

Are you travelling solo this year? What are your travel must-haves...
