STOMACH TROUBLES TO FOOD FREEDOM | YORKTEST

It isn’t old news when I say I have had ongoing stomach issues for the longest time. From bloating to discomfort after meals, I always chalked it up to stress or just having a sensitive gut. But recently, someone asked me a question that completely shifted my thinking: Have you ever been tested for lactose or dairy intolerance?.

It was something I had honestly never considered. I love cheese, Iced lattes are a non-negotiable part of my morning routine and cutting dairy out of my life sounded like a total tragedy. Still, the idea made sense. It was worth ruling out, especially since trying to book time with a GP lately feels like a mission, we have all been there, right?. That’s when I came across YorkTest, and I am so glad I did.

What is YorkTest?

YorkTest is a UK-based company that provides at-home food intolerance and allergy testing kits designed to help you understand how your body reacts to different foods. Their testing is based on a simple finger-prick blood sample, making it super convenient to do everything from the comfort of your own home, and on FaceTime to your mum because you are a bit of a wimp! :). No long doctor’s appointments, no lab visits—just quick answers.

You can find out more about their services directly on their website at www.yorktest.com, where they break down each test and what it covers.

Choosing the Right Kit

YorkTest offers a range of kits depending on what you want to check. There’s the Premium Food Intolerance Test, which checks over 200 ingredients, the Essential Food Intolerance Test, which is more focused, and other options, including female hormones and even cortisol testing. I opted for the food intolerance test to get a better understanding of what my body might be reacting to.

The Testing Process

The kit arrived just a few days after I ordered it online. Inside were clear instructions, a lancet to prick your finger, a small swab stick for collecting your sample and a pre-paid envelope to return it. The process took less than 10 minutes—prick, swab, post. Done.

YorkTest makes it easy to track your sample through their app, which is a game-changer. When your results are ready, you get an alert and can view a full breakdown on your phone. The report is incredibly detailed and easy to understand, even for someone who isn’t medically minded.

My Results—and a Small Win

The best news? Cheese is still on the menu! I almost cried with relief. But beyond that, it was eye-opening to see what foods I actually do have intolerances to. Armed with this info, I’ve been making smarter food choices, which has already helped my digestion and overall gut health.

If you are someone who’s been struggling with mystery stomach issues, I can not recommend trying YorkTest enough. It gave me clarity, peace of mind, and a better understanding of how to support my body.
