6 WAYS TO ADD COLOUR INTO YOUR HOME READY FOR SPRING

Do you ever look around your home and realise that something needs to change?. These days can happen as you suddenly realise your home is rocking an outdated look or it is just looking a little uninspiring and lifeless.

One method of combating this feeling is to make some subtle changes to the colours you’re using. If your living room, bedroom - wherever, really - needs a but of a boost, injecting some more colour can breathe new life as you never thought possible. Here’s 6 simple steps to doing just that.

1. PLAY WITH COLOURFUL PILLOWS

By using scatter cushions as an accessory, you can add both splashes of colour and depth to your decor. Play with different textures on these pillows to add a bit of character. However, you should choose your colours carefully. You want them to stand out, but they need to be fitting with your existing interior design. Find colours that work with the same palette, and try lighter or bolder variations until you find your desired style. Plus, the extra cushioning will create more comfort - it’s a win-win!

2. ADD A LICK OF PAINT

Before you worry about having to completely redecorate, let’s outline the smaller things you can do with paint. It’s a nightmare having to see through a complete redesign of your walls. But, have you considered the positive impact painting just one wall might have? Choosing a bright, bold colour adds a completely new feature to the room, and is something you could use as a base for hanging artwork and pictures. You can leave it bare and let the colour do the talking! If you’re looking for smaller ways to add colour, try painting the edges of your coffee table or drawer handles to give furniture a fresh, updated look.

3. REFURBISH OLD FURNITURE

This is one method that can take time, and lends itself to a more long-term way of thinking in order to spread the cost. Plus, refurbishments can take a long time, whether it’s you or a hired professional doing the work. With that being said, giving older furniture a revamp is more cost-effective than buying new pieces altogether! Start by looking at old wooden furniture, and see whether they could be re-sanded and given a fresh paint to give them a new lease of life. You can also look to reupholster your sofa or armchair with a more colourful fabric of your choice. You can hire someone to do this for you, or try yourself using online DIY guides.

4. DECORATE WITH FLOWERS OR PLANTS

Everyone loves a good bouquet of flowers, don’t they? It’s no secret that they can steep a room in beautiful dashes of colour. By carefully choosing your colours, you can complement your existing style. Most flower arrangers have a keen eye for colours, so there’s no shame in consulting them on what you should be using! Keep them updated weekly and you’ll soon see a brighter side to your home. Not only do they add colour, bringing a piece of the outside in makes a room feel much airier. If you don’t fancy the stress of looking after flowers, try some small succulents. They require next to no watering, whilst still giving that desired burst of freshness.

5. HANG COLOURFUL ARTWORK

This can be done in a number of ways, and all depends on budget and how much artwork you’d like to go for. If you’re a minimalist and don’t like the idea of a mini-gallery in your living room, then one larger piece of statement art could do the trick. Go for stand-out and colourful where possible. If you are happy to utilise more than one piece of artwork, a wall gallery is a great way of adding different mixes of colours and design.

6. MAKE YOUR FLOORS COLOURFUL

If you’re looking to redecorate, as some people will be looking at as an option whilst reading this, then a bright carpet might be a step in the right direction to introduce your home to new colours. If you’ve got engineered wood flooring, consider laying a colourful patterned rug to bring new life into your floor. A rug will also create more comfort and actually make the room feel warmer, so it’s definitely dual purpose.

Let me know if you have any tips to brighten up the home this spring :)
