Some birthdays call for big celebrations, but for my 40th, honestly, all I really wanted was some time away, time to breathe, and time with the girls. Life behind the scenes has been a little hectic lately, so a night away to celebrate my birthday with my favourite people, with no big expectations, was exactly what I needed.
I booked a one-night birthday getaway at a hotel just 20 minutes from home. It’s actually where I get my lash lift done, and it really is such a stunning spa hotel, a little spenny, but everything you need for the perfect, easy night away.
Swimming pool, gym, which we obviously didn’t use :), sauna, just the perfect vibe for a little pamper break.
We packed face masks and snacks, and I booked us in for dinner and breakfast the next morning, so everything was covered and stress-free.
Check-in was at 3pm, so we headed there, unpacked, and got ready for swimming straight away. I can’t even tell you how fun it was. We pretty much had the pool to ourselves. Kids can bring floaties, and there were some there too, which was really handy.
Alessia and I also managed about 10 minutes in the sauna while Nila chilled on the loungers watching YouTube, screen time definitely saved the day there. I honestly don’t know how people stay in longer than 10 minutes; it is HOT in there!
We spent a good hour and a half in the pool area, then headed back up to the room to shower and get ready for dinner.
Fish and chips with all the sides for Alessia and me, and of course Nila went for pizza. A few glasses of wine for me, and some games at the table.
We never go anywhere without a pad and pens, it's a top tip I would give for all families. We played hangman, noughts and crosses, and also did some sums for Nila, which kept her occupied whilst dessert came.
By the end of dinner, we couldn’t wait to get back to the room, put our face masks on, and just switch off for the evening.
We put Pitch Perfect on, ordered room service, and honestly, it ended up being the best kind of birthday weekend, carefree, relaxed, and completely no pressure.
