HOW TO MAKE HOMEWORK MORE FUN FOR YOUR CHILD

Encouraging your child to complete their homework can be a difficult task for any parent, especially whilst in lockdown.

The good news is, there are ways you can help to make homework more fun by encouraging the right attitude towards learning and using some of these simple tactics suggested by private school in Kent.

Start by demonstrating a positive and optimistic approach towards your child’s education whenever you talk about it and let them know how proud you are of their achievements. This will encourage them to try harder as they will want to continue to impress you.

You could try and make homework sessions a time for the whole family to sit together and do their work, with some snacks and perhaps some of your child’s favourite music playing quietly in the background.

In order to make homework more enjoyable for your child, it might be helpful for you to understand their unique learning style. Everyone falls into one of the three main learning style: auditory, kinaesthetic and visual.

Once you know which style is better suited to your child, you will be able to provide appropriate tools and a suitable learning environment to help them with their home learning.

For instance, if they are an auditory learner, they might benefit from listening to podcasts to help them find the answers to their questions, rather than reading it in a chunky text book.

Once lockdown is lifted and things start to return to normal, it might be a good idea to allow your child to invite a study buddy over to do homework with them so that it becomes less of a chore and more of a social activity.

Other ideas post-lockdown are things like visiting a museum, to help them learn more about the topic in question and bring their learning to life.
