We have decided to go on a family getaway in the April half-term but are determined to have fun on a budget. With the rising cost of living, never isn't it!,finding an affordable holiday without leaving our pockets empty is key!. With a little planning and some savvy searching, a fantastic trip doesn’t have to break the bank, and this year, I want to do as much travelling as I can.
Be Flexible with Dates and Destinations
If you can be flexible with your departure dates, you’ll have a better chance of securing a bargain. Mid-week flights and off-peak travel days are usually cheaper than weekend departures. Additionally, consider lesser-known destinations; popular tourist hotspots tend to be pricier, whereas hidden gems often offer a more authentic experience at a fraction of the cost. Websites like Jet2 often have great deals on flights and package holidays, so it's worth checking their offers regularly.
Consider Alternative Accommodation
Hotels can be expensive, but exploring alternative accommodations could save quite a few pennies. Airbnb, holiday cottages, hostels, and camping can all provide budget-friendly options. If you're open to house swapping, you might even be able to stay somewhere for free!.
Look for Free and Low-Cost Activities
Many destinations offer free or low-cost attractions, such as nature trails, beaches, museums with free entry days, or walking tours. Before you travel, research activities that won't take a big chunk out of your spending money. When I booked the children and I a little trip away last year I came across some really cheap and affordable days out like the Monkey Park In Tenerife. A lovely day out and didn't cost an arm and a leg.
Travel Light and Save on Luggage Fees
Budget airlines often have high fees for checked luggage, so consider packing light and using only carry-on luggage to save money. Packing efficiently with versatile clothing can make a big difference. We picked up some small hand luggage bags from Ebay, and let me tell you, I am now the queen of packing a week's worth of holiday gear into it :)
Bring Your Own Snacks and Drinks
Airport and tourist attraction food prices are notoriously high. We paid nearly ten euros once for a portion of chips and a drink, there were four of us!. Bringing your own snacks and refillable water bottles can save you so much, then there is more spending money for the fancy iced coffee treats :)
Whether you are looking to book a short break for yourself or your family, shop around, and you will find a lovely holiday to suit your budget and have the best time. With these tips in mind, you can make amazing memories without financial stress.
Happy travels!
Budget friendly holidays are the best in my opinion because, you can make a lot of great memories. Thanks for these super helpful tips!
