On my recent trip to Spain, we headed to Málaga and explored the city for a few nights, and wow, what a trip!. You can often find some amazing deals by searching for Jet2 flights to Malaga, and honestly, this city turned out to be a total gem. Having never been to this part of Spain before, there’s so much to do and even more that I’ve yet to tick off my travel list, so I’ll definitely be heading back.
If you are planning your own Málaga itinerary or looking for inspiration for your next city break in southern Spain, here are a few of my favourite things we got up to during our stay.
Picasso Museum
I really love art and all things creative. I think I have a knack, as they say, for spotting beauty in art and reading it well. The Picasso Museum was one of my favourite stops in Málaga. There are over 200 pieces on display, and they are absolutely incredible. Picasso truly captured art in a way that I don’t think anyone has since.
The Entrance Fee is €13 and is a perfect cultural stop before lunch while exploring the city centre.
Tuk Tuk Tour of Málaga
Something I had never done before, but would highly recommend, is a Tuk Tuk tour around Málaga. We did a 2-hour tour and stopped by some of the city’s main highlights, including the Pompidou Centre, the Roman Theatre, Pedregalejo Beach, and Gibralfaro Castle.
You get to see so many little corners of the city, and it’s such a fun way to start your trip. You can even start putting your Málaga itinerary together as you go!
Price from £35 per person and is a perfect way to start any city breaks to Málaga.
Tapas and Wine Tour
If you are going anywhere in Spain, a tapas tour is a must. When you add wine to the mix, it becomes the perfect combo activity!
We joined a Traditional Andalusian Tapas and Wine Tour, and it was everything!. From the tasty tapas to the local wines and the friendly guide, she was lovely. It was such a lovely evening. We Learnt about some of Málaga’s oldest wineries, tasted incredible local dishes, and soaked up plenty of history along the way.
The wine was a little stronger than I usually go for, so let’s just say I was happily merry by the end of the night. It was so much fun!
Price from £60 per person
Málaga Cathedral
I’m a sucker for a pretty building wherever I go, and when I say this Cathedral in Málaga is one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen - I mean it! The stained-glass windows surrounding the apse are stunning. Locals call it La Manquita, meaning the one-armed lady, because one of the towers was never completed.
Free to enter, though donations are very much welcome. This is one of the most Instagrammable spots in Málaga, I reckon!.
Rooftop Drinks at Sunset
One of our spontaneous and best evenings was having a cheeky cocktail and watching the sunset across the city, with views overlooking the Cathedral itself. It has to be one of the highlights of the trip.
Some rooftop bars require reservations, while others don’t. We went to the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio, where entry was €11, which included access to the rooftop and one drink. Highly recommend adding this one to your Málaga travel plans :)
Málaga has completely surprised me. It’s the perfect mix of culture, history, food, and sunshine. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend getaway or a longer trip, there’s so much to explore and enjoy.
