A 24 HOUR RESET THAT HELPED ME GET OUT OF A RUT

I have been doing the Mel Robbins 24-hour turnaround lately, as my moods have been meh to say the least, and I am trying to get my life back on track. If you have been stuck in a rut lately, feeling unmotivated, or just not sure how to get out of a funk, this is a great way to reset your mindset and get back on track, and it only takes 5 simple steps.

CLEAR THE MENTAL CLUTTER

Brain dump anything that is going round in your mind and put it all on paper. Doing this helps you get out of your head and onto paper, where it feels a lot less overwhelming.

Circle one thing you want to do today, and then leave the rest for another day. You don’t need to fix everything all at once.

CLEAR THE PHYSICAL CLUTTER

We are not taking a big whole house deep clean. Pick one thing off your little list that needs doing in the house that has been getting on your nerves, and clean the space.

For me, it was my pyjama drawer, my god, does one person need a million pairs of pyjamas?!. A small tidy space can honestly make such a big difference to how you feel mentally, and finding a matching pair of pyjamas after a bath feels like such a treat! :)

MOVE YOUR BODY INTENTIONALLY

To change how you feel mentally, you need to move physically. Walks for me have been a godsend. I can get my 12,000 steps in without putting too much pressure on myself to go back to the gym and go at it 100 miles an hour.

Some days, a simple walk is more than enough; it’s about consistency, not perfection all the time, although my brain likes to tell me different!

DO SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE TOMORROW EASIER

I have wanted to try and make some carrot cake overnight oats. I love oats and carrot cake, and had seen so many recipes, but wanted to recreate it with some carrot cake protein powder I have had in the cupboard for ages.

Meal prepping my breakfast felt like such a reward this morning, and oh my, they tasted absolutely delicious! Doing something small today that helps future you, is one of the best habits you can build.

CLAIM ONE WIN

At the end of the day, claim one win.

It doesn’t have to be big. It could be:

  • going for a walk
  • tidying one space
  • making the best overnight oats you have ever tasted :)

It all counts. Small wins build momentum, and momentum is what gets you out of a rut.
