HOW I AM LEARNING TO LOVE MY BODY

Body image has always been a thing I have struggled with, along with a lot of other people too I’m sure. We only get one specific type of body slapped in our faces from when we are really young, and if we don’t fit within that type we are made to feel as though we aren’t beautiful right?.

I’m going to share some tips with you on what I’m actively doing to help build that positive thinking process about my own body image, especially now summer is on its way and I know there will be a few of us that are trying to get that ‘perfect body’!.

LOOK AT WHO YOU FOLLOW ON SOCIAL MEDIA

It took me a while to realise how important this is. If you think about it, who you follow on social media determines the type of content you are digesting. I would sit for and compare myself to people , fashion influencers and people I knew who to me, had “perfect” bodies.

I unfollowed those accounts that made me feel bad about myself and followed those who promote bodies like mine.

Yes I train at the gym but I am not here to become a size 8 with a six pack. Bodies who show the imperfections, who show stretch marks, rolls and belly fat is what I am here for and seeing that content on my feed has increased my self confidence massively.

EAT FOOD TO FEEL BETTER

What I eat is a reflection of how I feel. I tend to eat more unhealthy food when I’m feeling miserable, but that’s life. What I have changed is my relationship with food and labelling it ‘good’ and ‘bad’.

I am on a calorie deficit with my gym training but now I will quite happily eat fruit and yoghurt for breakfast , followed by a delicious kfc for dinner , it is all about balance :)

BAD BODY IMAGE DAYS ARE OKAY

We all have bad body image days and that is ok!. We bloat and the jeans don’t fit, and that can strike a low day, we all go through it , learning to embrace them and know it’ll pass makes the feeling a little more easier to handle .

BE KIND TO YOU AND YOUR BODY

My body has housed 3 children, gone through yo-yo dieting over the years, had surgery and keeps me going every single day and that is some strong power.

Our body is our home, it’s our vessel , it’s what keeps us alive, be kind to it and don’t be so hard on it :)

It can be such a process learning to love who you are and your body. It can take such a long time to do so, and I think you never really get to a place of total peace with yourself, but it’s about the journey and I hope you are well on your way to loving your body .
