Last month I applied for a place in this year's Girls In Marketing Internship programme and I got accepted. After freelancing at a PR agency for the last two years, I really wanted to go it alone and build my own business in social media management and marketing. With the experience and knowledge I have, Beyond Socials PR was born.
There is that saying that you can never learn too much, and when the opportunity for a 3-day internship came up, I knew it would be invaluable. As well as networking, which is crucial in this type of work, I am always looking to better my skills for my own brand and my clients.
The programme was sponsored by some amazing companies - Semrush, Riser and Adobe EXPRESS.
We had lots of sessions over the course of three days. I had never heard of Riser before this programme and had never used Adobe EXPRESS before, but I use it daily now.
SEO was one of the sessions from Day one and I will admit, SEO normally scares me and I shy away from it ALOT!
Not anymore thanks to Leader Rita Cidre and her amazing jam-packed course.
Key takeaways from the session
* Backlinks are CRUCIAL when it comes to ranking and organic traffic. The more high-quality backlinks you have, the higher the chance of your site being seen.
* How much Semrush would benefit my work!. Not only can you keep track of your client’s and your own authority score of your website but there are a bunch of cool other stuff I didn’t know was available!. I have never used it before but straight after our session I signed up!.
Day 2 absolutely smashed it with Creative Director Leila and her session on Creative Marketing.
Lucy Street talking all things Adobe Express - definitely a novice when it comes to Adobe but it looked epic and I now use it daily.
Last but not least was the amazing Joanne sharing her secrets on how to deliver the perfect marketing campaign - LOVED this session and learnt loads.
This was by far the most important session for me and took away so much.
On day 3 we had sessions by Suzanne and Lamees from Riser on selling your authentic self and building meaningful connections—reminding me that "networking is your net worth." Keira then taught us how to take our personal branding from "invisible to unmissable."
It has been an invaluable 3 days and remember, if opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.
I have been blogging for over 13 years now, and even now, I am still learning new things.
