There’s something so blissful about a lazy afternoon when you are on holiday, isn’t there? No alarms, no rush, just time to soak it all in and really decompress from home. We are currently enjoying a little break away in Hemsby, and yesterday we headed into town for a wander and a bit of a shop. While we were there, the girls each picked out a slime set—because what’s a holiday without a bit of mess and creativity?.
If you are a regular reader here, you will already know that Alessia has been a slime fanatic for years. She’s always loved getting elbow-deep in glittery, gooeyness, so she was absolutely buzzing to dive into a slime-making session. We grabbed the Elmer’s Slime Kit, a long-time favourite in our house, along with a cheaper £6 kit from B&M to do a little comparison.
I have to say, I wasn’t expecting much from the budget kit—especially up against Elmer’s, which is £15—but we were really surprised. Our little chalet came through for us too, stocked with more kitchen utensils than we expected, including two buckets (perfect for slime mixing!) and a low coffee table that became the ideal slime-making station.
Both kits came with all the essentials: glue, activator, and glitter glue. The budget kit, a Cra-Z-Slimey one, actually worked better than the Elmer’s!. Alessia was honestly shocked, and it’s safe to say we will be grabbing that one again in the future.
The girls also added a little lotion to their creations, which made them smell amazing, like sweet shops and bubble baths. If you’ve made slime a million times like we have, you’ll know that adding extras like lotion or hair mousse can totally change the texture and scent. From sticky and gloopy to soft, marshmallow-y fluff, it’s a whole sensory experience—and one they never get tired of.
The slime session kept them happily occupied for ages, and I love seeing them play together. With the age gap, they will usually go their separate ways and do their own thing, so coming together for an afternoon was lovely to see. We wrapped up the afternoon with a treat run—iced coffee for me, and milkshakes topped with whipped cream taller than their heads for the girls.
Now we’re off to the arcades for some classic seaside fun, followed by the ultimate holiday dinner—fish and chips by the sea. Honestly, nothing beats that crispy batter, salty chips, and the sound of crazy, scary seagulls in the background.
Sometimes the simplest days are the best ones, and today has been just that. Slime, smiles and seaside vibes.
