Pumpkin season is here, and we love nothing more than going pumpkin picking at this time of year. Whether you are choosing a giant one for carving, a bunch of smaller ones for decorating, or just fancy an autumn family day out, Staffordshire and the surrounding areas are full of fantastic pumpkin patches to explore. With Halloween creeping up fast, now is the perfect time to plan your visit.
Here are some of the very best places for pumpkin picking in and around Staffordshire this October.
Shakes on the Rocks
The pumpkin patch at Shakes on the Rocks is back again this year. Families can enjoy an afternoon exploring the patch, snapping photos and letting little ones hop on the tractors, which are always a highlight for younger visitors. They also have the newly put up park and dont forget an extra treat - the milkshakes.
I am keeping my eye out for the pumpkin-flavoured one, as I know it'll be there soon!
Pumpkins are priced between £3 and £6, depending on size. The patch is open on selected dates, Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Saturday 18th, Sunday 19th, Saturday 25th, and Sunday 26th October. Each day it runs from 12pm until 3pm.
Libby’s Patch
If you’re after the full pumpkin-picking experience, Libby’s Patch is a must-visit. Spanning more than ten acres, it has two different pumpkin areas: seven acres of pumpkins still growing on the vine, and three acres of ready-picked pumpkins for those who prefer to grab and go. The fields are dotted with seasonal displays and photo spots, so it’s an Instagram-friendly day out as well as a family adventure :)
Libby's Patch also has delicious stone-baked pizzas, campfire-toasted marshmallows, slushies, and hot drinks available throughout the day, with undercover seating so you can stay cosy even if the weather turns chilly, the joys of the UK. Entry costs £5 per car, making it excellent value for families. Dogs on leads are welcome too, so no one has to miss out.
The patch opens on the 4th and 5th of October for its launch weekend and continues every weekend throughout the month, as well as every day during October half term. Tickets can be booked online to secure your spot.
Snugburys Pumpkin Field & Snugpuds
Famous for their ice cream, Snugburys also has pumpkin-picking every weekend until the end of October. The pumpkin fields are always full, and there’s even a skeleton walk to keep the kids entertained.
What makes Snugburys extra special are the autumn-inspired treats on offer. Their Snugpuds ice cream sandwiches with a seasonal twist this autumn are The Maltywich, an oaty malt biscuit filled with malt-flavoured ice cream and dipped in chocolate, while the Spicywich features cinnamon biscuits and pumpkin spice ice cream. This is one I have got to try!.
Wheelock Farm, Sandbach
A favourite of ours, Wheelock Farm in Sandbach, is another brilliant spot for pumpkin picking. We have been here a few times and really love it, not just for the pumpkins but for the whole family experience.
The pumpkin patch is open daily from the 27th of September right through October, with pumpkins starting at just £1.50. Entry for children is £11.99, adults £2.99, and under-ones go free. The entry price includes the pumpkin patch and access to the play areas and farm facilities, making it a great value day out.
The tea room serves hot meals until 4pm and drinks and cakes until 5pm, so there’s always a chance to warm up after exploring the fields. We normally stop for a bit of lunch and make a whole day out of it. With free parking and no need to book in advance, Wheelock Farm is always a great stress-free choice.
Wetley Moor Alpacas and Pumpkins
For something a little different, head to Wetley Moor Alpacas and Pumpkins. This patch has the magic of pumpkin picking with an added bonus of meeting alpacas.
It’s a smaller pumpkin patch compared to some of the larger farms, but sometimes a nice small patch gives a more relaxed morning out of pumpkins. If you are looking for something unique that will keep the kids talking long after Halloween, Wetley Moor is the place to go.
With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to make those spooky memories and find the perfect pumpkin to light up your doorstep.
