Capturing memories with pictures has been part of my life for a very long time. I honestly think it stems from my uncle Kevin loving photography and often showing me his cameras and how film is developed. For the past eight years, it’s also been my full-time job and I love it.
I create content, both for my own platforms and for clients, and cameras, editing, and storytelling are just part of our normal routine at home.
It’s probably no surprise that the girls have grown up surrounded by it all, and now Nila has naturally developed her own love for photography. She’s watched me work, asked questions, picked up cameras, and for the last couple of Christmases, she’s asked for one of her own.
She enjoyed the toy cameras she had, but we wanted to wait until she was a little older before giving her something more serious. Now at eight, she’s ready for a camera that feels real and helps her actually learn.
As a professional photographer, I always pay attention to quality, usability, and durability, even for a child. This camera manages to balance those things with being child-friendly.
It takes sharp, colourful photos, and the touchscreen is easy for her to use on her own. She can frame shots, review photos, and explore settings without constant guidance. It also has WiFi connectivity and supports a micro-SD card, which makes storing and sharing images simple.
Durability was important to us, too. The camera is designed to handle knocks and drops, and the buttons and frame are kid-friendly. It also includes helpful features like parental controls and a built-in speaker.
Some of the AI features are actually quite helpful. They handle technical adjustments so she can focus on her creativity without frustration. If you know, you know, my girls get a tad frustrated with everything! :)
Her confidence is growing. She captures everyday moments, notices details she wouldn’t have otherwise, and proudly shows me what she’s seen through her lens, her eyes. Photography has become a shared interest between us, and we enjoy it together.
For families with kids interested in photography, I would really recommend. It’s simple enough for a child to use independently, but still meaningful enough to help them take their interest seriously.
Watching her excitement and pride in her work is so cute. If you are more interested in the MYFIRST camera 50 or looking for a first digital camera for kids, this is the one :)
