5 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED ON MY FITNESS JOURNEY

If you’ve been following me for a while then you will know my fitness journey started 2 years ago when I actually quit slimming world.

I had done a bit of research and decided that I wanted to focus on fitness, my nutrition and stopped slimming world and started counting calories, increasing my protein and joined the gym.

Now at the start, it was a mindset of getting a flat tummy and being ‘slim’, which I couldn’t be anymore further away from that today and I wanted to share with you why and what I have learned on my journey so far.

FITNESS ISN’T ONE SIZE!

This is 100% truth!. No matter what trend is currently out or what latest exercise promises to do what, if it’s not something you enjoy or what you need to reach your goal then it’s pretty pointless.

For example the tredmil trend at the minute is fun, but if you are wanting to grow your arms and tone your back , a tredmil trend isn’t going to be your focus exercise, right?.

I had hernia surgery in 2019 and I have to be careful with what abdominal exercises I do and how far I can push myself, so I’ve had to see what suits me best and most importantly ,just do what makes me happy :)

REST IS TRAINING

I learnt this the hard way and injured my hamstrings pretty badly , to the point I couldn’t walk without being in pain.

Rest days are key for recovery and for muscle growth, so making sure I am having rest days, and long soaks in the bath, it’s all part of the process :)

THE SCALES ARE NOT EVERYTHING

Yes!. I weight train most of the week and the scales use to be everything, but measurements and pictures show a whole different story and you might be gaining a pound that week but you’ve lost an inch off of your waist so the scales are not the be all!.

YOUR GOALS WILL CHANGE

My goals have done a complete turn around. I started my fitness journey thinking I wanted abs and to be slim, now I’m focusing on my glutes and having the thickest thighs , and proud of them I might add - leg day is my favourite!!.

HAVE FUN!

I started going to the gym and I was focused on one thing, getting in and getting out. The gym is literally an adults playground , have fun!. Try all the machines , see which ones you like the best, make friends , join some classes, honestly, you will love it!.

I’m back from the gym today and did a fantastic glute session, Epsom salt bath pending.

Id love to know what you have learned on your fitness journey so far and what changes you have made.
