WHAT I'M READING | THE CHRISTMAS KILLER | ALEX PINE

I was on the lookout for a Christmas Murder vibes kind of book to end the year. I had never heard of Alex Pine but actually found this one up in the charity shop a few months ago. As always, I checked if it was on Kindle Unlimited, as I still have a while left until it runs out.

It was, I just love reading on the Kindle and prefer it. I thought this would be quite a fast-paced book that had you gripped by every chapter but I was a little disappointed.

As the snow begins to fall, the body count begins to climb…

DI James Walker is ready for a quiet family Christmas in the sleepy village of Kirkby Abbey.

But when he opens an early Christmas present left on his doorstep, he soon realises it is no gift. Inside is a gruesome surprise, and a promise – twelve days, twelve murders. Not long after, the first body is found, half frozen in the snow.

As the blizzards descend, panic spreads through the remote Cumbrian village – there’s a killer amongst them, and with eleven more victims to go, anyone could be next….

Can James stop the killer before they strike again?

The cover initally drew me in and twelve days of Christmas sounded perfect for what i was after, but i felt the story dragged and was very slow. Not one that i was thinking about during the day or couldnt wait to read.

It actually took me quite a few weeks to finish and I was quite disappointed with the ending, it made sense but not a jump-out oh of course kind of ending. I liked some aspects, like the Christmas cards, without spoiling too much, but thought it could have been a lot more gripping.

Did you read this one over the Christmas Holidays? what did you think...

  1. I've never heard of this book, but I would try it. As long as the writing is good, I'm fine with a plot that's more straight-ahead.

  2. I wasn't able to read a book over the holidays with me being sick and all. I need to stock up on books to read this year. Will check this out. :)

  3. The cross section of Christmas and Killing is not one that I was aware of! Sounds like a neat thriller to end the year on.

  4. This sounds like a very interesting book to read. I need to know if he could stop the murders and how many murders there were. I do question why is it always is sleepy little villages there are so many murders

It’s always disappointing when a book doesn’t hold your attention the way you hoped, especially when it takes so long to finish. The Christmas card twist sounds intriguing though!
