Not long before the children break up for the Easter holidays and we all know how expensive two weeks can be—trust me, I have three children and finding fun and free things to do can be a challenge.
Here are some lovely things to do and ideas to keep the whole family entertained this spring, free!
Picnics in the Park
If the sun decides to make an appearance, which it has done here in Staffordshire over the past week, it is the perfect excuse to head to your local park. Grab a coffee (of course), pack up a few snacks or homemade sandwiches, and let the kids run wild in the fresh spring air. Bring a blanket, a ball, and maybe even a few Easter treats to make it a full day out with friends or family.
A park trip is so underrated and overlooked. If you told my youngest that we were having a park day with snacks and a friend, she would be over the moon.
Baking Fun
Nothing beats a sweet treat! The girls are mini egg mad, so our go-to is mini egg Rice Krispie cakes —quick, fun, and no oven required. You can also raid your cupboards and get creative with whatever ingredients you have. Start your very own Easter baking tradition!
Easter Crafts at Home
Get creative with Easter crafts! From making your own bunny masks to decorating eggs, crafting is a great way to keep little hands busy. We love the themed kits from Baker Ross if you want to spend a few pennies—they are packed with ideas and supplies to spark your child's imagination.
If you’ve been a regular reader for a while, then you’ll know my girls are craft-mad and will honestly make a masterpiece out of an egg box carton and some glitter :)
A Visit from the Easter Bunny
Keep the magic alive with a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny! Choc Ops Easter Delivery brings a smile to little faces, with the Easter Bunny and two elite “hoperatives” (Agent Hopkins and Agent Scoop!) on a mission to deliver Easter joy. They scout out the best hiding spots and surprise children across the UK—truly unforgettable and full of fun!
Spring Walks
One of our absolute favourite free family activities in spring has to be a good old-fashioned walk. There’s something about springtime, everything waking up again, from the daffodils to the baby lambs—that just makes you want to get outside and breathe in the fresh air.
We love finding local nature trails or just heading to a nearby woodland or canal path. You don’t need a set plan—just pop on your shoes and go exploring. Make it fun with a mini scavenger hunt: can the kids spot five different types of flowers, a butterfly, or a bird's nest?
Spring walks are not only great for tiring out the little ones, but they’re also a brilliant way to switch off and reconnect as a family. Plus, if you are trying to be mindful of spending during the Easter break, it’s completely free.
We always bring a small bag to collect “treasures”—twigs, interesting stones, or fallen petals—which then usually end up in some sort craft project when we get home.
There you have a few simple, budget-friendly ways to keep the kids entertained over the Easter holidays without breaking the bank. Whether you're soaking up the spring sunshine in the park, getting messy in the kitchen, or crafting away at the kitchen table, it's all about making memories together.
Spring walks are always a great way to spend some time together and start to enjoy nature again. It's so fun to watch everything budding out.
