Let’s be real, our skin isn’t what it was in our early twenties, and honestly? That is perfectly fine. Once you hit your 30s, summer can really test your skincare routine. Between the heat, the sun, and the teenage-looking breakout moments, your skin needs a little extra love this time of year.
Here’s how I keep my skin glowing all summer long without overcomplicating things. These are the tips and products I genuinely use and love.
SPF Every. Single. Day. No Excuses.
Your number one anti-ageing product year-round, especially in summer. Always choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply every 2 hours if you are outside. Mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are also brilliant for sensitive or more mature skin.
Let me introduce you to my holy grail—the Bondi Sands Face Suncream SPF 50. OH. MY. GOD.
It goes on like a dream: smooth, not thick or greasy, and feels more like a moisturiser than sunscreen. Packed with aloe vera and vitamin E, gives 72 hours of hydration, is water-resistant, and protects from both UVA and UVB. Honestly, it’s amazing and the only face SPF I’ve ever used that didn’t break me out. Not a single spot. Game-changer.
Looking for something quick and easy to reapply during the day? I love the Garnier Over Makeup Suncream Mist SPF 50. It’s super lightweight, doesn’t ruin your makeup, and again, no breakouts. That alone is a miracle.
Also, It’s perfect for spraying into your hair parting to stop sunburn. Genius mum hack right there.
Hydration Over Everything
Once you hit your 30s, hydration becomes your best friend. I love keeping things fresh and dewy with Lush Eau Roma Water,a gentle toner with rose and lavender that I spritz on during the day when my skin’s feeling tired, hot, or just meh. It’s a quiet little skincare hero, especially if you’re in the sun or blasting the air con on holiday.
Also, I’m obsessed with the e.l.f. Holy Hydration! Eye Cream, so soothing, doesn’t sting, and feels way more luxurious than the price tag. Absolute winner.
Lighten Up Your Moisturiser & Keep Clean!
I always swap my heavier winter creams for lightweight moisturisers in summer—hydrating but never sticky. Look for something with hyaluronic acid or glycerin to keep your skin plump without clogging pores. I’m currently using the e.l.f. moisturiser, and it feels SO good on the skin—packed with all the goodness too.
With all the sweat, SPF, makeup, and daily grime, cleansing is key. I use a gentle cleanser morning and night, nothing harsh or stripping, just enough to keep my skin balanced.
My go-tos at the moment are Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser and the Aromatherapy Associates cleanser, both lovely and gentle.
And let’s not forget exfoliating. Dead skin doesn’t shed as easily as it used to (cheers, 30s), so a gentle exfoliant once or twice a week keeps things smooth and glowing. I love a mild chemical exfoliant that doesn’t irritate.
Simple Night Routine
After a long, hot day, your skin needs to recover. I keep it super simple:
Cleanse → apply a soothing serum (something with peptides or niacinamide) → finish with a nourishing night cream or oil → and drink a big glass of water before bed. Done.
No need for 12 steps. Just give your skin what it needs and let it rest.
Skincare in your 30s doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s really about working with your skin, not against it, and giving it the little extras it needs to feel good, especially in the summer. Hydrate, protect, and be kind to your skin (and yourself).
I’ve found what works for me after lots of trial and error, and I hope some of these tips or products help you feel more confident in your own skin this season.
