The sun is shining today, and it really does feel like spring is finally on its way. I love being outside – it’s so grounding, and being outdoors in the sunshine always puts such a smile on my face. It completely changes my mood, I've even picked up some ice today, iced coffees here I come! :)
Now that the brighter days are coming, I really want to get out into the garden and give it a new lease of life. Budget-friendly, of course, because after a very expensive few weeks of outgoings, I’m definitely trying to save the pennies. The joys of the cost of living, right?
Still, I’ve got a few ideas that I want to try, and I’m really excited to get started.
I used to grow quite a lot in the garden a few years ago, but somewhere along the way, I fell out of love with it. I’m not really sure why, probably just life getting busy and everything else taking over, but this year I want to bring a little bit of that joy back.
Rock painting is such an easy and cheap way to decorate the garden. We have a ton of paint pens for rocks, and I know the girls would absolutely love getting creative and making some colourful designs to place around the garden.
Another thing on my list is painting the fence. It’s one of those small jobs that can make a huge difference. A fresh coat of paint instantly makes everything look tidier and brighter without needing to do anything too major.
One thing I definitely want to do this year is create a little snack garden.
Strawberries, tomatoes and sugar snap peas are some of the kids' favourites, so it would be lovely for them to be able to pick them straight from the garden. There’s something really special about growing your own food, even if it’s just a few small things.
I might also try planting a few extras alongside the snack garden, like potatoes, just to see how we get on, haven't done potatoes in years!!!!.
A Tiny Flower Patch
We have an old car tyre in the back garden, don’t ask me where it came from! It’s been there since we moved in over nine years ago, I'm sure of it.
Instead of trying to get rid of it, I thought it might actually make a great little flower bed. With a bit of paint and some soil inside, it could become a colourful flower patch and bring a bit more life to that corner of the garden.
Garden picnics are something I absolutely love doing, and they take hardly any effort at all. Something as simple as having lunch outside on a blanket can feel really special in the spring sunshine. I will be picking up a jet wash and giving the patio slabs a good clean before this.
Last year we even had afternoon tea in the garden, and it was so lovely. It’s really easy to recreate, a few sandwiches, some sweet treats, sausage rolls and a wicker basket, so cute!.
One thing I would really love to get this year is a fire pit so we can spend more time outside in the evenings. There’s something so cosy about sitting outside when it starts to get cooler, watching the sunset, add toasted marshmallows to the mix, and I will most definitely get mum brownie points :)
I am sure I will come up with lots more small and simple ideas over the next few weeks as we spend more time outside. If you have any fun garden ideas to do in the garden or budget-friendly revamps, then let me know.
