6 BEST THINGS TO DO IN MARMARIS

You all know by now just how much I love sitting by the pool or on the beach with a good book, topping up my tan and making the most of the sunshine. Honestly, I could quite happily spend hours doing absolutely nothing, but I also love a good explore when I'm away.

I always think the best holidays are the ones where you get a bit of both. One day relaxing by the pool, the next heading off on an adventure, finding hidden gems and getting to know the destination properly. That was exactly what Marmaris gave me.

On my recent trip to Marmaris, Turkey, I packed so much into just a few days, and honestly, I fell in love with the place. 

If you are planning your own Marmaris itinerary or looking for the best things to do in Marmaris, here are the things I'd recommend adding to your list :)

Hike to Amos Ancient City 

This was hands down my favourite experience of the whole trip. If someone tells me there's a hike involved and an incredible view waiting at the top, I'm already putting my trainers on. I absolutely love being outdoors, surrounded by greenery, and hiking up to Amos Ancient City was everything I hoped it would be.

Now, fair warning. There are a lot of steps! 

By the time we reached the top, I was definitely ready for a sit down, but wow, what a view. Looking out across the coastline with nothing but mountains, sea and greenery surrounding you was honestly stunning.

At the top, you'll also find the remains of the ancient city, including the ancient theatre overlooking the bay. Standing there imagining what life must have been like thousands of years ago was such a surreal feeling.

If you are the sort of person who loves exploring while you are away, I'd definitely add this to your list of places to visit in Marmaris.

The Honey House

I'll be honest, when I heard we were visiting the Honey House, my first thought was, "Please don't let there be loads of bees!" :), I'm absolutely petrified of them.

Thankfully, it turned out to be one of my favourite excursions in Marmaris.

I learnt so much about how Marmaris' famous pine honey is made, and here's a little fun fact for you:  pine honey doesn't actually come from flowers! Instead, it's produced using honeydew found on pine trees, giving it its own unique flavour, and it is delicious!

Of course, I couldn't leave without bringing some home, and I'm still drizzling it over my breakfast now. Safe to say, supermarket honey just isn't cutting it anymore.

Take a Boat Trip (Or Three!)

If there's one thing Marmaris definitely isn't short of, it's boat trips. We somehow managed to squeeze in three during our stay, and every single one was completely different.

One was perfect for switching off with a book and soaking up the sunshine. Another included lunch, swimming stops and a full day of relaxing, while another gave us the chance to explore even more of the beautiful coastline.

That's what I loved about the boat trips in Marmaris;  there really is something for everyone. Whether you are after a peaceful day on the water or a full day adventure, you will find a boat trip to suit you.

Seeing Marmaris from the sea gives you a completely different perspective, and I'd honestly recommend making time for at least one during your holiday.

Explore Marmaris Town 

One thing I always make time for whenever I travel is exploring the town I'm staying in. Time toust wandering.

Marmaris Town completely stole my heart.

The little cobbled streets are full of charm, there are cute shops tucked away around every corner, cafés that are perfect for people watching, and so many gorgeous little photo opportunities.

And then there were the cats...

I think I probably spent just as much time saying hello to them as I did exploring!. If you've ever been to Turkey before, you will know how well they are looked after, and they honestly made wandering around Marmaris even more special.

Throw an iced coffee into the mix and I could quite happily spend an entire afternoon doing exactly that.

Go on a Jeep Safari

This was something I'd never even thought about doing before, but it ended up being one of the biggest surprises of the trip.

The Jeep Safari took us away from the busy resort, and into parts of Marmaris we'd never have discovered on our own. Driving through the countryside, taking in the mountain views and seeing another side of the area made it such a fun day out.

It's definitely one of those activities I'd recommend if you are travelling as a family, with friends or if you simply fancy doing something a little different during your holiday.

Is Marmaris Worth Visiting?

Before visiting, I expected beautiful beaches, sunshine and amazing food. What I didn't expect was just how much there was to see and do.

Whether it's family holidays with Jet2holidays you are looking for or travel with friends, Marmaris really does have something for everyone. It's one of those places where you can spend one day relaxing by the pool and the next setting off on a completely different adventure.

 I feel like I've only scratched the surface. There are still so many places I'd love to visit, and I already know I'll be back.
