TIME & TIDE MUSEUM GREAT YARMOUTH | A GREAT FAMILY DAY OUT

Whenever we are staying at my mum’s in Norfolk, I’m always looking for somewhere new to take the girls. We’ve been coming to this part of Norfolk for years now, so we’ve done a lot of the usual things to do in Great Yarmouth with kids: arcades, beach, fair, but we’d never been to the Time & Tide Museum.

It’s not too far from my mum’s, so we decided to head over for a few hours, have a nosey around and then grab some lunch afterwards. Honestly, sometimes these random little days out end up being the best ones!

The Time & Tide Museum is all about Great Yarmouth’s history and its connection to the sea and fishing industry, but it’s definitely not one of those museums where the kids are just following you around asking when they can leave, if you know you know :). There’s loads for them to look at, explore and get involved with.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO AT TIME & TIDE MUSEUM?

There was actually so much more to explore than I expected. I think I had it in my head that we’d have a quick wander around, look at a few old things and be done, but there are loads of different little areas to discover.

A big part of the museum takes you through Great Yarmouth’s fishing history, with old fishing equipment, boats and recreated scenes showing what life would have been like years ago. There are also little streets and shops set up inside, which I absolutely loved. You genuinely feel like you’ve wandered into another time rather than just walking around looking at things behind glass.

Nila had plenty to keep her entertained too. There were interactive bits dotted around, games to play and little activities to get involved with. we did some pirate crafts while we were there, and obviously we had to have a go at the fishing game

There were old homes and rooms to explore, old shops, fishing displays and loads of random little things to have a nosey at. It’s the sort of place where you keep turning a corner and finding another room you didn’t realise was there!.

Then towards the end we found an area with old toys and retro games, including Pac-Man, which obviously meant any attempt at leaving went straight out the window!. It was such a fun little addition and I love things like this because it breaks up all the history for the little ones and gives them something completely different to do.

IIS TIME & TIDE MUSEUM GREAT YARMOUTH WORTH VISITING?

I’d definitely say yes, especially if you’re already visiting Great Yarmouth and fancy doing something a little different. It was a lovely little morning out, Nila had plenty to do, and there was much more inside than I expected.

If you’re looking for things to do in Great Yarmouth with kids, especially if the weather isn't playing ball or you fancy a break from the beach and arcades, the Time & Tide Museum is definitely worth popping into for a few hours.
