EXPLORING ELIZABETHAN HOUSE MUSEUM IN GREAT YARMOUTH WITH KIDS

 We’ve been finding so many little places to explore around Great Yarmouth this summer, and Elizabethan House Museum was another one we decided to pop into while we were at my mums.

I’ll start by saying this one is small. You are not losing half a day in here, and it didn’t take us long at all to make our way around, but we really liked that it was a quick little stop; there was plenty for Nila to get involved with, and I got to have a nosey around an old house :)

If you love old buildings and interiors, you’ll love having a nosey around here. There’s loads of beautiful dark wooden panelling, huge fireplaces, old furniture and rooms set up to show you what life would have looked like years ago.

Apparently I’ve reached the age where I can genuinely get excited over an old fireplace and a chest of drawers. Who am I?! :)

It’s one of those places where you wander from room to room having a look at everything, but what I really liked was that it wasn’t all LOOK BUT DO NOT TOUCH, which, when you’ve got kids with you, is always a bonus.

IT'S REALLY INTERACTIVE FOR KIDS

For such a little museum, there was actually quite a lot for Nila to get involved with.

There were old-fashioned outfits she could dress up in, household jobs to have a go at and different things she could actually touch and interact with rather than just walking around looking at displays.

The kitchen was obviously where she came alive!. She got dressed up and was straight behind the kitchen table rolling and pretending to cook like she'd just been hired.

And yes, the butter squishy came too. Squishies are apparently life at the minute, and Nila goes absolutely nowhere without that bloody block of butter, so naturally it also got to experience a little slice of Elizabethan life.

Honestly, watching her pottering around the kitchen was probably my favourite part.

IS ELIZABETHAN HOUSE MUSEUM WORTH VISITING?

I wouldn’t plan an entire day around Elizabethan House Museum because you really can get around it quite quickly, but as somewhere to stop off while you’re exploring Great Yarmouth, I think it’s lovely.

It’s small, interesting, really interactive for children and there’s enough to keep them entertained while you get your history fix and have a nosey around all the gorgeous old rooms.
