After our first ever trip to Butlin’s Minehead this summer, I can officially confirm one thing: you are not going to be bored. We booked five nights pretty last minute, and I honestly didn’t realise quite how much there would be to do once we got there. Between the shows, swimming, parks, arcades, rides and all the extra activities you can book, our days were absolutely packed.
If you are planning a family holiday and wondering what there is to do at Butlin’s Minehead with kids, these were some of our favourite things from our stay.
1. SPEND A FEW HOURS AT SPLASH WATERWORLD
If your children love swimming, Splash Waterworld definitely needs to be on your list of things to do at Butlin’s Minehead. Nila is an absolute water baby, so obviously this was always going to be a winner for us.
It’s such an easy way to spend a few hours and perfect if you are staying for a few days and want something that will keep the kids entertained without having to book another activity. We were super lucky and had perfect weather during our stay, but this would also be perfect for one of those classic British summer holiday days where it decides to absolutely chuck it down! :)
2. WATCH ONE OF THE LIVE SHOWS
This was probably one of the things that surprised me most about our Butlin’s holiday. There is so much entertainment going on throughout the day and evening.
We watched The Masked Singer Live and really enjoyed it, Jack and the Beanstalk was genuinely so funny and we also went along to the Brainiac Explosive show one afternoon, which was really cool and something a little bit different.
Make sure you download the Butlin’s app because this is where all the magic happens. You can see what entertainment is on, check opening times and book the shows and activities that need booking. Honestly, the app becomes your best friend while you are there.
3. VISIT GANDEYS CIRCUS
We also booked Gandeys Circus during our stay and it was such a good little extra, i dont know if this is an all year round thing but like i said, the app lets you know what is on every day.
It cost us £7.50, which I thought was really reasonable considering how quickly the cost of extra activities can add up on a family holiday. It was a lovely way to break up the day and definitely something I’d recommend looking at when you are planning what to do at Butlin’s Minehead.
4. HIRE A GO-KART
We paid £36 for a go-kart for five people, which I actually thought was really good value for money. It was something we could all do together and, of course, someone cried- the joys of having children, right?, but we all laughed and giggled too! :)
There are plenty of optional paid activities at Butlin’s Minehead, so I’d have a look through the app when you arrive and decide which ones you actually fancy rather than feeling like you need to book everything.
5. HIT THE ARCADES
Unsurprisingly, the arcades became one of Nila's favourite places. I blame Nanny living by the seaside and us always being in the arcades when we visit. We spent plenty of time trying to win prizes, teddies in particular, if you know, you know :)
Just prepare yourself for the inevitable negotiations over how many more goes they're allowed before you leave. “ONE more” apparently never actually means one more when children are in an arcade!
6. FIND ALL THE PLAYGROUNDS
Sometimes you can spend hundreds of pounds taking children away, and their favourite thing will still be a park.
There are plenty of play areas around Butlin’s Minehead, and I genuinely don't think we managed a single day without ending up at one. The parks are also another easy thing to add into your day that doesn't involve booking anything or getting your purse out, which is always a win!.
7. HAVE A GO ON THE FAIRGROUND RIDES
There are fairground rides at Butlin’s Minehead too, with an outdoor fairground as well as rides indoors. The outdoor fair was so much fun and, even better, the rides are included in the price of your break. Anything involving the words “included in the price” on a family holiday is music to my ears :) .
Nila was a little bit too tall for the indoor rides, although this may have required a little bit of assertiveness from me :). Definitely check the height restrictions before promising the little ones anything because we all know how well that conversation goes when they're already standing next to the ride.
IS THERE ENOUGH TO DO AT BUTLIN’S MINEHEAD?
Absolutely. Before our first Butlin’s holiday, I genuinely didn't realise how much there was going to be to do.
My biggest tip would be not to completely fill every minute of your holiday before you arrive. Download the Butlin’s app, have a look at what's happening each day and book the things you really don't want to miss.
