Believe it or not, I had never been to Butlin’s before. I know, I know, have I even experienced a British childhood?!. So when I decided to book a very last minute summer holiday for me and Nila, Butlin’s Minehead was where we ended up.
We booked five nights during the summer holidays for £421, which, considering it was pretty last minute, I thought was an absolute bargain. I had absolutely no idea what to expect from our first Butlin’s holiday, but safe to say, we had a blast!.
The only slight issue was the drive. Minehead is quite the trek from Stoke and, considering I’d only been driving for just over a year, it was definitely one of my biggest drives yet. I was SO nervous beforehand, but I did it, and I am really proud of myself.
STAYING AT BUTLIN’S MINEHEAD
We went for pretty standard accommodation because realistically, how much time are you actually going to spend in your room at Butlin’s?
Our accommodation was basic, with two single beds, a TV and a fridge, but it had everything you would need. Nothing particularly fancy, but absolutely fine for somewhere to sleep after spending the entire day running around the resort. And trust me, you will be tired. There is so much going on at Butlin’s that by the end of the day I was more than ready for my bed and some TikTok scrolling.
FOOD AT BUTLINS
When I booked our Butlin’s holiday, I added breakfast and dinner, which turned out to be one of the best decisions. Both are pretty much an all you can eat situation, which is perfect when you have little ones because kids are always hungry, aren’t they? You can feed them a full meal and 10 minutes later they are asking what snacks you’ve got!.
Having breakfast and dinner already sorted just took away the stress of figuring out where we were eating every day and how much it was going to cost. I also added lunch as an extra, which worked out so much cheaper than buying lunch separately every day.
We spent most lunchtimes in Papa Johns basically stuffing our faces with pizza, salad and pasta, which I am absolutely not complaining about. There are a few different options to choose from though, including fish and chips and Chopstix, so you don’t have to survive exclusively on pizza for five days. Although, again, absolutely no judgement here :)

One thing I would definitely recommend before your holiday is downloading the Butlin’s app because this is where all the magic happens. You can use it to see what entertainment is on, find out what’s open and when, and book shows and activities.
There is so much happening around the resort that having everything in one place made planning our days so much easier. We saw The Masked Singer Live, which we really enjoyed, Jack and the Beanstalk was hilarious, and the Brainiac Explosive afternoon was really cool too. Honestly, you will never be bored at Butlin’s. I can tell you that much.
THINGS TO DO AT BUTLIN’S MINEHEAD
It wasn’t all shows either. Nila absolutely loves the water, so Splash Waterworld was obviously a massive hit. There are also loads of parks dotted around the resort, and I genuinely don’t think there was a single day where we didn’t end up at the park at least once. Kids and parks, honestly, you could take them anywhere in the world, and somehow you’ll still end up sitting on a bench or standing for an hour next to a slide.
Then there are the arcades, which if you have been a regular reader for a while, you will know is one of Nila’s favourite places to be. It was also an easy way to fill a bit of time in between shows and activities.
We also hired one of the go-karts while we were there. It cost £36 for five people, which I actually thought was really good value for money and such a fun little extra to do, if the kids dont argue or cry..... :)
Another extra we booked was Gandeys Circus, which was only £7.50 per person. There are a few extra shows and activities you can pay for and book, but there is so much to do, you really don’t have to.
That was one of the things I really liked about Butlin’s. There is already so much to do that you don’t need to spend loads of extra money once you are there.
WAS BUTLIN’S MINEHEAD WORTH THE MONEY?
For us, absolutely. We paid £421 for our five night break, which, considering this was during the school summer holidays and booked pretty last minute, I genuinely thought was such a bargain.
We were ridiculously lucky with the weather too. It was absolutely glorious, which made the whole holiday even better. For our first ever Butlin’s holiday, we were happy. Nila had the best time, there was never a point where we were sitting around wondering what to do next and, most importantly, I didn’t have to listen to “I’m bored” every five minutes.
I completely understand now why families go back year after year. Would we go again? Absolutely. I think we’ve officially been converted.
