The races are something I have never really been interested in. Everyone has their thing, right? And horse racing wasn’t really mine until I spotted that Great Yarmouth Racecourse were hosting an evening of racing followed by Songbird, a Fleetwood Mac tribute, and that definitely got me excited!
I LOVE Fleetwood Mac, so an evening in the sunshine, a few cheeky bets, some good food and live music to finish the night sounded so good. Great Yarmouth Racecourse absolutely delivered with this one too!
OUR FIRST VISIT TO GREAT YARMOUTH RACECOURSE
The Racecourse is just a few minutes from Yarmouth beach, really easy to find, and there was plenty of parking when we arrived, which is always a bonus because there is nothing worse than driving around trying to find somewhere to park, especially when you can't park to save your life! :)
We got there nice and early as it was our first time visiting, so we wanted to have a little wander around, see where everything was and obviously get some food before the racing started. The weather was absolutely glorious too, so we grabbed a drink and just enjoyed the sunshine while we waited for the racing to begin.
I was actually really surprised at how family friendly the racecourse was. There is a big children’s playground which Nila loved, so she could go and have a play in between the races when she was getting a little bored. If your children also like to tell you “I’m bored” 72 times on a family day out, then you will appreciate this as much as I did! :)
A LITTLE BET ON THE HORSES
Obviously we couldn’t go to the races without putting a little bet on, although I had absolutely NO idea what I was doing. Did I understand the odds? No. Did I know anything about the horses? Also no. Was I picking them because I liked their names? Absolutely yes.
Somehow I actually won twice; clearly my technique worked, and I’m sticking with it. Pick a cute name and hope for the best!
I actually really enjoyed the racing, which I wasn’t expecting at all. Everyone was cheering their horses on and the atmosphere was so good, especially when they were getting close to the finish line. I completely get why people enjoy going to the races now and I would definitely go again.
FOOD AND DRINK
There was so much choice in the food court. There are loads of different food options around the racecourse, so there really is something for everyone.
You can keep it simple with fish and chips, sausages and nuggets for the fussy eaters, or go for something a bit different. There were even full seafood platters, which of course Nila managed to talk me into buying her!
I went for the BBQ pulled pork loaded mac and cheese and oh my god, it was incredible! Of course I had to have a cheeky pint to wash it down with too. Food, sunshine and a little win on the horses, living my best life right!
SONGBIRD FLEETWOOD MAC TRIBUTE
I absolutely LOVE Fleetwood Mac, so the minute the racing finished and all the classics started playing, I was in my absolute element. Singing along with Lessie, drink in hand, after such a lovely evening at the races was the perfect way to finish the night.
I loved that there was entertainment after the racing too because it made it feel like a proper evening out.
We had already spent the afternoon watching the racing, eating good food and enjoying the sunshine, and then got a Fleetwood Mac tribute at the end of it.
We spend a lot of time in Great Yarmouth, and there is always something to do; we will definitely be doing the races again!. If you are planning a trip to Norfolk, I’ve also put together some of my favourite things to do in Great Yarmouth on a budget, with plenty of ideas for keeping the whole family entertained without breaking the bank! :)
