SMALL DRIVE, BIG WIN | MY FIRST SOLO TRIP TO THE PARK

Today I went on my very first little road trip, and honestly, what a buzz it was! When I say “road trip,” it was only a 20-minute drive to the park, but for me, that is such a big achievement. Any journey I make alone as a new driver is a huge win, and these are the moments I have been so excited for since passing my driving test a few weeks ago.

The sun was shining, and when my friend suggested a trip to the park, Nila was so excited, she hadn't seen them this whole summer. I will admit, I felt a little nervous. I hadn’t driven since my test because I’d spent a few weeks at my mum’s over summer.

To calm my nerves, I planned out the easiest and least stressful driving route in my head. This is something I have been doing since passing my test, and it really helps ease the pressure. When I mentioned it to my mum, she reassured me that all new drivers do the same. Choosing a simpler route is always the best way to build driving confidence in the beginning.

We made it to the park safely (yay!), but then came the parking. The park is on a busy main road, which was a little daunting, so I chose a quieter spot at the side. It gave me plenty of room to park without stress, and honestly, it felt like such an accomplishment.

We spent the afternoon enjoying the sunshine, playing in the park, and treating ourselves to coffee and ice cream at the café. Being able to take the girls out by myself feels incredible. Getting in the car and driving Nila to the park, without having to rely on Mezz, friends, or even a taxi, gives me such a sense of freedom.

Today was a really good day. Since losing my dad, good days have sometimes been hard to find. But this small step in my driving journey felt like a big win, and one I will always remember.

  1. Well done on your first little road trip, I did my first longer road trip on Saturday to see friends. My husband always drove to them and it felt so daunting but with my daughter by my side we got there and back safely and I felt a sense of achievement that I had done it.

  4. That's amazing Kira, when you first start driving it is scary. I am sure in no tire you will be making much longer trips.
