WHAT'S ON OUR BOOKSHELF THIS OCTOBER

As a family of book worms we all love reading and this month we have been digging out the spooky books. Nila has a few  favourites that she gets out every Halloween but we've also been to the library this week and she has picked out some really good ones.

Side note - definitely go to your local library when it comes to little ones. It's a great way of encouraging books and reading without the big cost of buying them. We do treat the girls to new books at Christmas, but do check out the library and also charity shops for really cheap books :)

CREAK! SQUEAK! HALLOWEEN

By Clare Lloyd and Dawn Sirett

Lift the flaps and listen to Mr Friendly Ghost, a big eyed owl and other Halloween noises .

Nila loves a flap book, even now at 6 years old. She loves flipping them over for the reveal. This one we have had since she was little. Light activated sounds too which is even more fun, and we haven't had to change the batteries in this yet, 4 years later!.

HALLOWEEN

By Richard Platt

Uncover the truth behind the spooky celebration. I picked this one up in the sale bit in TKMAXX and it is brilliant. Lots of facts and history of Halloween and made super fun with the flaps.

 VAMPIRE PETER

By Hannah Peck and Ben Manley

From the moment Peter enters his new classroom he is immediately called the baddest boy In school. But is he really bad or is he just different because he comes from a strange , faraway land?.

A library book and a great one for asking questions, Nila and I discussed what being different means and what other differences we might have from each other .

WHO'S BAD AND WHO'S GOOD - LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD?

By Steve Smallman

When Little red riding hood sets out to visit Grandma, her mum warns her not to talk to strangers, but how can she tell who's bad and who's good?.

I loved this edition, not your typical little red riding hood, which is why Nila picked it, she loves this one and thinks its spooky with the wolf, but this fairytale is a mix between story telling and keeping safe.

DRACULA SPECTACULAR

By Lucy Rawland Ben Mantle

Its tough being a vampire when you are more giggles and glitter than beastly and bitter. Full of spooks and sparkles , Nila loves this one and we have read it 3 nights in a row - also picked this one up at the library

Let us know what your Halloween reads are this October :)
