EVENINGS, SELF-CARE, AND SKINCARE AT 40 | MY ROUTINE AND FAVOURITE INGREDIENTS

I am turning 40 in April, and honestly, I have never been more into my skin. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that hits quite like a quiet evening after a busy day, hair up, cleanser on, and an episode of Love Island. Anyone else watching it? Because that combination of villa drama and a double cleanse is elite self care.

As I  have got closer to 40, my skincare priorities have definitely shifted. I’m not just chasing the glow anymore;   I am thinking about repair, regeneration, firmness and hydration that actually lasts. Ingredients that support my skin long term, not just make it look good under flattering lighting :)

Recently, I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of one ingredient in particular: PDRN.

What Is PDRN

If you are anything like me, you love researching what’s actually inside your products. I don’t just want a pretty bottle on my shelf, I want to know what it’s doing. That’s how I discovered more about PDRN in cosmetics.

PDRN is known for its regenerative and skin repairing properties. It’s associated with supporting cell renewal, helping the skin recover, and improving overall skin quality, which becomes increasingly important in the late 30s and 40s.

The more I read, the more it made sense. This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about supporting the skin’s natural processes so it can function better on its own.

Why PDRN feels perfect for 40+ skin

As we age, our skin doesn’t bounce back the way it used to. Collagen production slows, fine lines linger longer, and that slightly tired look can appear even when you have had a decent night’s sleep, trust me!

This is where regenerative ingredients really come into their own.

What I love about PDRN is that it’s not just another surface-level hydrator. It’s also linked to supporting skin repair, improving elasticity, strengthening the barrier, and encouraging a healthier-looking complexion. It feels less about 'anti-ageing', I actually hate that term, and more about skin resilience.

If your goal is healthier-looking skin, better healing, improved elasticity and texture, PDRN is a lovely ingredient to explore, especially in serums or treatments. I’ve found that when I focus on ingredients like this, my skin looks calmer, more even, and just more supported.

It’s giving intentional skincare. It’s giving grown-woman energy, and I’m fully here for it :)

My Current Evening Ritual

After a busy day, my evening routine has become something I genuinely look forward to. I start with a proper double cleanse, always, because there is something so satisfying about washing the day away. A couple of nights a week, I’ll gently exfoliate, and then comes my serum step, where regenerative ingredients like PDRN fit perfectly.

Then layers of hydration and a moisturiser that feels like heaven, and of course Love Island is playing in the background, someone is crying over a recoupling, and I’m sitting here massaging in my skincare like it’s a full spa experience, without a care in  world :)

If you are experimenting with new ingredients or focusing more on skin health as you approach 40, I’d love to know what’s on your shelf. Are we in our regenerative skincare era together?
